GROUP EXHIBITION – NOW OPEN BY APPOINTMENT

You are invited to join Le Blanc Fine Art at their studios, foundry and gallery to see a showcase of work by artists they collaborate with. The work includes sculptures by Lloyd Le Blanc, Judith Holmes Drewry (1950–2010), Andrian Melka, Andrew Harris, David Sprakes, Derek Moss, Hywel Pratley, Jim Unsworth, John McGill, Ken Ford (1930–2018), Mike Grevatte, Robert Fogell, Simon Manby and Tristan MacDougall and paintings, prints and photography by Alan McPherson, James Millar and Simon Manby. There is also a chance to see how the bronze sculptures are made and to meet the artists, including sculptor Hywel Pratley, who recently created the statue of Her Late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, for Rutland that stands behind the library in Oakham..

• The exhibition is open by appointment. Contact Le Blanc Fine Art to find out more.

PORTRAIT SCULPTURE 3-DAY WORKSHOP

Learn to sculpt the portrait from life on this multi-day workshop at Le Blanc Fine Art in the beautiful village of Saxby. Guest tutor Tristan MacDougall will teach you to understand the underlying structure of the head as well as to observe with sensitivity the subtle nuances in facial features and personality of the sitter. This is a 3-day portrait sculpting workshop where you will be sculpting from life for 5 hours a day. With a maximum of 7 students, you will get the dedicated and tailored teaching that you need to learn this challenging but hugely rewarding discipline.

Faye Le Blanc told us: ‘Arrive at 10am and have a tour of  our foundry and studios, meet the team and other participants with fresh coffee and biscuits before beginning the teaching session. We all stop for a convivial sit-down lunch in our gallery with stunning views over the sculpture garden. We aim to finish the sculpture course around 4pm each day.’

An option (additional charge) is for you to have your work cast by the foundry into a permanent medium of either bronze or plaster of Paris.

About guest tutor Tristan MacDougall: Sculptor and teacher of Art at Oundle School and a member of the society of portrait sculptors and winner of the Society’s Olin Award for Bas-relief sculpture, Tristan MacDougall was trained in the classical tradition of portrait and figure sculpting at the Florence Academy of Art. He has taught portrait sculpting workshops for the Society of Portrait Sculptors at their annual exhibition in London.

• Workshop (3 days): 25–27 October, 10am–4pm

• £450 includes materials, refreshments and lunches

• All abilities welcome, suitable for beginner and advanced sculptors, maximum 7 participants

THE TINTYPE STUDIO

Guests this year have the opportunity to visit the Tintype Studio just a step down the road from Le Blanc Fine Art’s foundry. The studio is one of only a handful in the UK that specialises in the Victorian photographic process known as Tintype. Photographer James Millar will be giving tours, demonstrations and taking portrait commissions. Experience how pictures were made over 170 years ago. As part of the artistic experience, visitors are invited to keep their eyes peeled as they wander through this tiny Leicestershire village and look out for a few artistic treasures where they least expect to find them.
